After a long time, we finally had another get-together again. Those clients who have been with us for many years still remember the fun-times when we were located at the Neerlandia Clubhouse.
It was so much easier to organise functions because of the big hall but also the funding at the time was different. So, we could take money out of the “big pot” and spoil everybody.
After July 2015 every provider had to provide support under Consumer Directed Care, which involved a different way of funding. Each client has their own budget and a provider needs to provide a statement at the end of each month.
Many of our clients have a high amount of unspent funds in their budget. Even though our Coordinators and Support Workers are always encouraging our clients to use more support or to get the right equipment to make life easier, the funding accumulates very quickly.
We started in November to call all clients to see if there was an interest in having a lunch together.
It was nice to see how many clients straightaway said “yes please, great idea”; it came from the new clients too.
A big “Thank you” to Claus from Miss Maud who always gives us a special price so we can afford to take out our Support Workers, Volunteers and now our clients and to spoil them a bit too.
